Five day RTI program held at Panchthar

<div justify;"="">Citizens Campaign for Right to Information (CCRI) in Nepal organized and successfully completed training program at Panchthar district. In an recent event held , CCRI provided training on Right to Information (RTI) to 25 mediators of Panchthar, Illam and Taplejung for 5 consecutive days ( from June 11 -15th , 2015). The twenty five (25) participants were journalists, teachers, social mobilizers and other persons representing special groups and disadvantaged communities.

The training was aimed at providing information such as basics of RTI, existence of RTI centre, information seeking and receiving procedure, legal and constitutional frameworks regulating RTI in Nepal. Use of computer and various multimedia devices was done to deliver the understanding about RTI, Legal provisions and its use by citing video examples, demonstrating letter draft and the process of lodging the complaints thereof.

The training was facilitated with a combined effort of Mr. Taranath Dahal, Chairperson of Freedom Forum, Mr. Tanka Raj Aryal, Executive Director of Citizens’ Campaign for Right to Information (CCRI), Mr. J.B. Bishwokarma, Coordinator of the RTI Project from UNSECO and Mr. Sanjeev Ghimire, RTI Expert.

After gaining knowledge on RTI based issues, the participants were asked to approach various public agencies to seek information on various public issues legally by drafting of RTI applications. The participants were also made aware on the possible obstructions from the public officials. They were then asked to share about their experiences they have gone through while filing the application. After getting their response, the participants were divided in groups to promote use of RTI in their respective district for personal as well as social benefit.

The closing of the training program was facilitated by opinions of Mr. Keshav Raj Rijal, Chief District Officer of Panchthar, Ms. Bimala Dhakal, Treasurer of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Panchthar and Mr. Govinda Dhakal, Senior Vice-Chairperson of Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Panchthar on the present status of Right to Information in the respective district.
