Second National Convention on Right to Information held in Kathmandu.

On 7th and 8th August, 2015, the Second National Convention on Right to Information has been successfully concluded in Kathmandu. The Convention was jointly organized by Freedom Forum and Citizens’ Campaign for Right to Information (CCRI).

The Convention was inaugurated by Dr. Mindendra Rijal, Minister at the Ministry of Information and Communication. Similarly, dignitaries like CA member Hon. Rabindra Adhikari, Chief Information Commissioner Mr. Krishna Hari Baskota, Member of National Human Rights Commission Miss. Mohana Ansari remained as the guests of the Inauguration Ceremony. Chairperson of Freedom Forum Mr. Tara Nath Dahal addressing the inauguration session stated that RTI campaign has been made national in eight years and no one can repress this right. The convention was witnessed by two hundred seventy participants comprising up of RTI activists from all around Nepal, CSO representatives, journalists, political parties’ representatives etc.

Eight thematic papers involving the contemporary issues of RTI were presented and discussed in that convention where different organization working for RTI and RTI activist actively participated.
Mr. Tara Nath Dahal, Chairperson of Freedom Forum, Mr. Kiran Pokharel, Information Commissioner of National Information Commission, Mr. Dharmendra Jha, Senior Journalist, Mr. Hari Binod Adhikari, RTI activist, Mr. Shreeram Panta, Former Secretary of National Information Commission, Mr. Tanka Aryal, Executive Director of Citizens Campaign for Right to Information, Mr. Anirudhra Neupane from Freedom Forum, Dr. Sudhanshu Dahal involved in the presentation in thematic issues. 

Similarly, Former Chief Information Commissioner Mr. Binaya kumar Kasajoo, Former Information Commissioner Ms. Sabita Bhandari Baral, Commissioner of National Human Right Commission Mr. Sudip Pathak, Senior Journalist Mr. Hasta Bhadur Gurung, Mr. Suresh Acharya, RTI Expert, Chairperson of CAHURAST  Nepal Mr. Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, Mr. Ram Krishna Timalsena, RTI Expert, Chairperson of GOGO Foundation Mr. Kedar Khadka, Mr. Santosh Sigdel, an RTI Expert, Mr. Baburam Dahal, an RTI Expert and remained as commentators upon the paper that were presented.
By giving a commitment to make RTI as citizens’ strong weapon in upcoming days and issuing Kathmandu Declaration of 36 points the convention was concluded.
